A Fresh Start.

I guess you could say this is like my New Year’s resolution, huh? Let’s hope I follow through with it.

It’s time for a fresh start. Lately my life has been turned upside down and muddied up. This year has been one of the worst years I’ve ever experienced. My grandma was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the day before my birthday, I haven’t been able to keep a stable relationship, I was thrown into a completely new environment (college), and I’ve been letting everyone treat me like a doormat. It’s time to take control of my life.

A fresh start is a clean slate, meaning I will leave the past in the past, focus on the present, and not worry about the future. There are some things that are out of our control, and we tend to forget that. We can’t control everything, and sometimes we have to experience, feel, and do things we’d prefer not to. BUT for the parts of your life you can control like relationships, how you treat yourself and others, your goals and path to success, you take it by the horns and don’t let go. Do not let people or life itself run you over and drag you around. You are playing an active role; this is your life.

Here is a list of my resolutions I hope to commit to in 2019:

  1. Don’t invest more of your time and effort into someone who won’t do the same.
  2. Don’t beat yourself up for things that are out of your control.
  3. Focus on the good moments and cherish them. 9 times out of 10 you’re complaining, so let’s change that.
  4. Remember the golden rule: Treat people the way you would like to be treated.
  5. Don’t be afraid of getting your heart broken. Love as much as you can because it always makes you better, even when things don’t work out.
  6. Take care of yourself. You feel better when you try to.
  7. Cry. Cry when you feel like you need to, whether it be tears of joy or tears of sadness. It’s okay to have emotions.
  8. Live your life to the fullest, whatever that may be.

I’m done letting my life fly by. The time passes way too quickly, and I don’t want to regret not doing the things I wanted. I want to be happy, and to do that I have to put in some work. You’re here for a good time, not a long time. Make the most of it.

Remember, happiness isn’t a place or a person but a decision.
